HUGUES ANHÈS

screen printing & photography workshop

AFFICHEZ-VOUS x SAW Nordic Lab

EN / FR

As part of his research residency at the SAW Art Center, in partnership with the Institut Français du Canada, French visual artist and photographer Hugues ANHES is offering a photography workshop for a group of young Indigenous artists from Ottawa participating in The Nordic Lab’s screen printing program, accompanied by artist Michael PETERSON.

This workshop invites participants to explore photography as a means of personal expression and action on reality, while integrating it into their screen printing practice. Through a collective process of observation, listening, and creation, participants will be guided in appropriating this medium and using it as a tool for visual storytelling and cultural affirmation.

This project is part of the AFFICHEZ-VOUS initiative, which connects contemporary portraits and vernacular archives in order to create a dialogue between memory and the present. The artist's research focuses on the archives and history of Canada's Indigenous communities, questioning how these images can “come out of their boxes” to blend with the present and nurture a renewed understanding of our territories and shared histories.

The work produced in the workshop will be presented at Village Transitiôn in Gatineau —a place that welcomes and supports people experiencing homelessness. The installation will be created in collaboration with three members of The power of expression program, who participate in weekly artistic activities at the Cour des arts.
